Stills From- THE ROAD

Filed under: Washington, Film — admin @ 20:32

The Road
I am a HUGE fan of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. I couldn’t put it down. I don’t know why, but next to revenge movies, my favorites are “end of the world”, “last person on earth” type films. So this story was right up my alley. The whole time reading it, I was thinking that this would make a perfect movie. Not too long afterwards, I found out that it was being made and even partially filmed in this general area!(Mt St. Helens) John Hillcoat(The Proposition) is the director and stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. A few stills have been released over at USAToday. Head over there to check them out. Its looking great so far.

VINYAN - Fabrice Du Welz

I really wanted to like Fabrice’s Calvaire,(The Ordeal in U.S.) but I just couldn’t. It certainly is not a bad film at all though. It had alot of good atmospheric and stylistic shots throughout. I really liked the whole look and feel of the end of it. There is something here he can work on for sure. I think he is capable of a really good movie and we will have to see if Vinyan will be just that. Head over to Premier France to see a trailer. Its hard to say….. Here is a synopsis: Unable to accept the the loss of their son in the 2005 Tsunami, Jeanne and Paul Bellmer have remained in Phuket. Desperately clinging to the fact that his body was never recovered, Jeanne has convinced herself that the boy was kidnapped by traffickers in the chaos that followed the catastrophe… that her son is still alive. Paul is sceptical, but cannot bring himself to shatter his wife’s last hope. Bribing the sinister Mr Gao to take them by boat to the pirate-infested jungles of the Thai/Burmese border, the traumatized couple embark on a quest that will plunge them through paranoia and betrayal, ever deeper into an alien universe, a supernatural realm where the dead are never truly dead, and where nightmares, obsession and horrifying reality converge.

….and its about time! He may be having some marital problems, but it doesn’t look like it has effected how awesome this movie will be. His last few attempts at straying away from his normal routine didn’t go over too well. So he’s back to his old self and theres nothing wrong with that! Head over to EMPIRE to see the first trailer!

ENTER THE VOID - Gaspar Noe

gasparnoe.jpg
The controversial Argentine Director is at it again! His previous works- Irreversible and I Stand Alone are two absolutely amazing films, but have scenes that are hard to watch. I’m a sucker for revenge films, and I’d say that Irreversible is probably the best one I’ve ever scene. Early rumors on this new Film ENTER THE VOID are saying that it will be shot in Japan and involve two siblings heavily into drugs. “Influenced by the Tibeten Book of the Dead and termed by Gaspar Noé as psychedelic, the siblings are in their teens or early twenties and are experimenting with sex and drugs.” I dont know, we’ll have to see. This could end up just being too over the top. Even for me.
A great article is written up on Gaspar over at Exposure Online Magazine. Here are a few quotes, but head over there to read the full story.

“”At Cannes, people ran away, people fainted, people threw up, but they were all just a bunch of wimps. I’m sure it’ll be different here in London, because I heard you people were really tough around here. So we’ll see all of you at the end of the movie; except maybe a few of you we’ll check the names. Bye. Courage” - National Film Theatre on the 11 October 2002.”

“”You can have a physical reaction to the movie, too. Even on the soundtrack, we added these really low waves, infra-waves, so that during the first half of the movie you have a 27-herz frequency that’s usually used in riots to make people run away.”

A “fan-made” (we’ll call it)movie poster has been made and can be seen HERE. This is not the official poster for the film, but turned out pretty good.

The Television Personalities Lingling Remix

The Television Personalities
I was completely unaware of this band somehow. But I picked up a decently priced record the other day from Jackpot records. What caught my eye was the DOMINO Records logo all over the sleeve. Junior Boys are on this label and I am always wanting to check out the other artists on this label, but for some reason never get around to it. I’m pretty happy with this. It has four songs by The Television Personalities all remixed by the likes of Ratatat,Battles,Lingling, and Black Dice. All four are really good. I will go ahead and post up the Lingling remix of “All the Young Children” for you to enjoy. Go and pick this up though. The other three tracks are great as well.

I Come With The Rain - Josh Hartnett

I come with the rainNow this is quite odd. Josh Hartnett will be in this upcoming film from Tran Ahn Hung entitled “I Come With The Rain”. It looks like he will be the only American actor in it-besides Harvey Keitel. The film will be set in Hong Kong but is being filmed in the Philippines.(See Video Below) Here is the synopsis via IMDB:”Ex-Los Angeles cop turned private eye Kline (Hartnett) travels to Hong Kong in search of Shitao, the missing son of a chinese billionaire. Enlisting Meng Zi (Wu) a friend and a former colleague now working for the Hong Kong Police, Kline follows a faint trail left by the ethereal Shitao. The path leads to local gangster Su Dongpo (Lee) and his beautiful, drug addicted girlfriend Lili (Tran). But Kline is distracted from his search, haunted by memories of the serial killer Hasford (Koteas)whose ‘body of work’ was the reason Kline quit the police force. Will Kline once again need to lose his mind to find his latest quarry?” Should be interesting. I consider myself a Hartnett fan. I thought 30 Days of Night was pretty good except for the ending.

Here is Hartnett on Jimmy Kimmel talking about the movie:

Dark Knight Poster

Anyone else extremely excited to see this? I am a huge fan of the original BATMAN movie from back in ‘89.

The new DARK KNIGHT will be directed by the super talented Christopher Nolan. If you are unfamiliar with him, do yourself a favor and netflix Memento and Following. Head over to Yahoo to see a slideshow of more shots of TDK.
