Stills From- THE ROAD

The Road
I am a HUGE fan of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. I couldn’t put it down. I don’t know why, but next to revenge movies, my favorites are “end of the world”, “last person on earth” type films. So this story was right up my alley. The whole time reading it, I was thinking that this would make a perfect movie. Not too long afterwards, I found out that it was being made and even partially filmed in this general area!(Mt St. Helens) John Hillcoat(The Proposition) is the director and stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. A few stills have been released over at USAToday. Head over there to check them out. Its looking great so far.

“The Big Bang Machine” - Large Hadron Collider

Large Hadron Collider
So did you hear about this thing?! Sounds like something right out of a sci-fi movie, but its the real deal. I’m still trying to get the details of what they are trying to do exactly. I will paste some of this article from worldnetdaily and zdnet for you to read: “Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, which is built to slam protons together at an unprecedented peak energy of 14 trillion electron volts – nearing levels scientists believe were reached in the first microseconds after the “big bang.”(If you believe in that sorta thing, that is)
“The critics have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government and the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, known as CERN, as scientists prepare to bring the collider online in July.”(UPDATE BELOW)

Physicists at CERN and similar research facilities dismiss the doomsday claim as nonsense. But Wagner, a former nuclear safety officer who says he’s studied physics for more than 30 years, wants the project shelved for four months to allow time for further safety reviews.”

“The particle accelerator was designed primarily as an attempt to produce the ‘Higgs boson’ — a hypothetical particle whose observation would help confirm some of the predictions in the Standard Model of physics. Other currently theoretical particles may also be observed for the first time, including microscopic black holes — some people have theorised that this side of the project could go wrong with Earth-threatening results, a fear that Cern has comprehensively and repeatedly denied. ”

“The first attempt to circulate a beam of particles around the tunnel will take place on 10 September, according to a Thursday statement by the LHC’s builders, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Cern). This event will follow a long commissioning process that has seen the structure cooled down to 1.9° above absolute zero (-271°C).”
